Removing Rug Backing Residue From Hardwood Floors

Hello i am going to be laying down peel and stick vinyl tiles down over wood floors but first i need to get the padding up off the floor.

If you use rugs with latex or rubber backing on your hardwood vinyl or tile floors you should replace them before they damage your floors. The stuff is amazing and removes almost anything sticky and gummy. I buy it by the gallon at ace hardware. But gripper pads sometimes leave marks on the floor beneath and require an occasional cleaning to remove any residue.

I have hard wood floors all over my home. It takes some elbow grease but it worked. I saw a tip somewhere to use resolve the carpet cleaner but not to clean the carpet but get the padding residue up from a hardwood floor. The padding was not glued down but fused with the floor anyway.

Rug gripper pads prevent rugs from slipping. If you have moved a rug and need to remove dried latex. When the rug is in place for a long period of time heat and pressure can cause some of the sticky backing to transfer from the rug to your wooden floor. This is important as a slippery rug can lead to an injury from falling.

I have experienced similar issues with the backing of area rugs and the residue left from double sided carpet tape to make my carpet runners stay put in my back entrance hall. Goo gone worked great.
