Work in small sections at a time.
Remove damp under carpet.
Remove as much water from the damp carpet as possible using a wet vacuum.
If the damp carpet is under a car mat remove the mat after checking to see if it contains any moisture or mold.
Remove the spilt calcium chloride crystals and moisture from the carpet by vacuuming the area thoroughly with a wet dry vacuum.
Sun the carpet if possible.
Step 2 remove the moisture.
Step 2 pour small amounts of hot water over the stain.
Depending on the size of the mold patch use either one or two cups of baking soda.
24 48 hours of direct sunlight will help kill mold spores and remove moisture that encourages mold growth.
This will dilute the calcium chloride.
If you have a wet vacuum go over the damp spot to take out as much of the moisture as possible.
After thoroughly cleansing the area with the vinegar solution sprinkle a thin layer of baking soda over the carpet.
Let the vinegar solution sit for about two minutes then dab away excess moisture with a dry cloth until the carpet is barely wet.
If the carpet is soaked through to the backing not just the upper fibers it may take much longer to dry.
If you don t have a wet vacuum dab the damp area with towels until it s feeling a little drier.
Before getting to the actual mold remove all the moisture that s in your carpet.
Remove as much moisture as possible with a wet dry vacuum.
If your carpet is removable move it outside and hang it over a sturdy clothesline.
